Short Hills Summer Series - 2015

A Race Series in Short Hills Provincial Park, similar to the Laura Secord Series in 2013. In this case, the format wasidentical: Adults raced three times around Trail #2, and Kids did a single lap. The only difference was that two extra events were added to the series, and we raced weekly, instead of bi-weekly. The best 4 of 7 events were used to determine the final results. Two races were cancelled due to conditions. A successful series!

A lap-style race series based in Short Hills Provincial Park. Adults race three (3) laps of Trail #2 in Short Hills Provincial Park. Kids ride a single lap. Cyclists compete against the clock for their best time. The best three of five times are collated to determine the winners of the Series. The 2013 edition of this Series corresponds to the 200th anniversary of Laura Secord's famous "hike" to warn British Forces of American advances within the Niagara Region during the "War of 1812."

Liberty! Bicycles 12 Mile Summer Series - 2011 and 2012

An improved version of our original 8x12 Series. Niagara has a high concentration of both off-road cyclists and really fantastic single-track trails. The 12 Mile Summer Series brings both together on alternate Wednesday evenings in the 12-Mile Creek Valley. The Series has a youth course and a semi-technical adult course. Cyclists compete for points. The best five of eight cumulated events determine the winners.

Liberty! Bicycles Hydro Hill Climb Championship - 2011

This was a head-to-head race up St.Catharines' legendary "Hydro Hill." The race started at the very bottom of the escarpment, and finished at the brim of the top. There were a series of four qualifiers; then, the top eight racers competed in a head-to-head elimination to determine the winner.

Liberty! Bicycles Off-Road Squeezer - 1994 to 2010

An annual event coinciding with the conclusion of the Niagara Grape & Wine Festival. The event was first held as the Grape & Wine Off-Road Challenge in 1994. After a cancellation in 1995 it sprang back to life as the Grape & Wine Off-Road Squeezer in 1996. And, in 1997, the official name became the Liberty! Bicycles Off-Road Squeezer. The Squeezer always started and finished in Downtown St.Catharines, at Montebello Park. The course changed slightly year to year, but followed most of the trails and paths between the Downtown and Short Hills Provincial Park. Part of the event's popularity was owed to its association with the Grape & Wine Festival. The Squeezer was cancelled in 2011 due to Festival space constraints within Montebello Park.

Liberty! Bicycles 8x12 Off-Road Series - 2006 to 2009

A Summer series of eight races on the trails of the 12-Mile Creek valley, from 2006 to 2009. These Wednesday evening races offered a short-, and long-course (for kids and adults, respectively.) Liberty! Bicycles Off-Road Freezer - 2004, 2005 and 2007

Our wintertime "Ice-Fest." Held for the first time in 2004 after a failed attempt in 2003. This event was initially offered to give local cyclists a chance to participate in the sport the middle of Winter. It was held in Short Hills Provincial Park, under the stipulation that trail damage should be avoided. To this end a self-imposed temperature restriction of -3c degrees became the threshold for cancellation. The event, although popular, was cancelled twice in four years. In 2007, a mini-version of the race was held along the trails of the 12-Mile Creek in St.Catharines. The decision was made to discontinue this event due to weather inconsistency, and the complexity of postponement.

Liberty! Bicycles Peace Race - 2003

This race was held as a time-trial-style road-race from Downtown St.Catharines to Queenston Heights and back. It could be raced as a team of two, or individually. The event was flawed in two respects: The course had to cross the Welland Canal, and it was held on open roads. Although the course was fully-marshalled, there was a potential for illegal (and dangerous) riding tactics, as well as the possibility of lost rhythm at the canal crossing (although wait-time was to be subtracted.) The event was unpopular and poorly attended because of these issues; and consequently, it was discontinued after only one attempt.

Liberty! Bicycles Canal Trails Bike Week Blast - 1999 to 2001

Fund-raising races for the East Side Trail on the Welland Canal. The East Side Trail was initially meant to be a multi-use, unimproved trail for off-road cyclists, hikers, equestrians, dirt-bikers, XC-skiers and snowmobilers. Sadly, for cyclists, the trail conditions worsened each consecutive year that the event was held. Today the East Side Trail is almost exclusively used by dirt-bikers. Most cyclists choose to ride elsewhere. Liberty! Bicycles hosted three Canal Trail events before deciding to end the fund-raising effort.
